The cover session event I wrote about earlier came around again, and I played guitar on six songs this time.
- Dokken: Kiss of Death
- back number: Suiheisen
- Thee Michelle Gun Elephant: Sekai no Owari
- Thee Michelle Gun Elephant: Get Up Lucy
- Sixpence None the Richer: Kiss Me
- Seiko Matsuda: Natsu no Tobira
The Dokken track was requested by the drummer friend who invited me to this event in the first place. We played in heavy metal bands together through high school and college, so this one felt special. Playing a song we had dreamed of performing as teenagers was genuinely moving.
The rest were suggested by the host. Three of them I had already played at a different event, so I only had to learn two new ones: "Kiss Me" and "Natsu no Tobira". "Natsu no Tobira" is a massively popular '80s pop hit by Seiko Matsuda, but when I actually sat down to learn it, the guitar work turned out to be straight-up hard rock. Easy to get into. "Kiss Me", on the other hand, with its acoustic guitar-driven pop rock feel, was harder for me.
Plenty of room for improvement in both tone and playing, but I think I did a little better than last time.
